Book one or more nights at the Frederick Inn Bed and Breakfast between Thanksgiving and Christmas, and receive $10 off at Mayne’s Tree Farm.
Come on out to the countryside for a day, and we will give you a voucher to visit Mayne’s Tree Farm (which is just ¼ mile down the road from the inn). They have a wide selection of trees, all sizes and types. They also sell wreaths and pine roping.
And the whole process can be an adventure! Grab a cup of warm cider and climb aboard the hay wagon. Mayne’s provides all the necessary equipment.
I made the mistake of taking Pat with me to purchase our pumpkins from Mayne’s last month. On the way to the pumpkin patch, Merhl, the owner, showed us around the farm from behind his tractor. During the course of the tour, Pat selected our future Christmas tree (or should I say trees). It went something like this: “I love that one….or how about that one?….hey, look at that one!………..”
For those who are concerned about potential environmental impacts of cutting down trees, I realized for myself a long time ago that this is just another form of farming. Those trees are planted for future harvesting, just like a crop of corn. It is another way of preserving the agricultural character of the county. As a matter of fact, much of Mayne’s Farm has been permanently protected by way of a conservation easement.
So come visit us in Maryland’s beautiful Frederick County and go home with the perfect Christmas tree (courtesy of the Frederick Inn Bed and Breakfast).
