Many of our guests at the Frederick Inn Bed and Breakfast travel here specifically to tour the local wineries. We are proud to announce that several of them ranked very well at the 2015 Maryland Governor’s Cup Competition.
“Best in Class” honors were awarded to:
- Best White – Sugarloaf Mountain Vineyard, Chardonnay Reserve 2014
- Best Rosé – Linganore Winecellars, Pinky’s Rosé 2014
- Best Red Blend – Black Ankle Vineyards, Feldspar NV
- Best Red – Big Cork Vineyard, Petit Verdot 2013
The final vintage listed above was also crowned “Best in Show”. Numerous gold, silver and bronze medals were also garnered by all these wineries at other major competitions. We are particularly proud of Sugarloaf Mountain Vineyard because of their proximity to the inn.
So clearly, if you want to sample and purchase some very good wines, then you will want to follow the Frederick Wine Trail. And if that is not enough to fill up your picnic basket, then all you have to do is cross the bridge over the Potomac River into Loudoun County, VA.
